PISTOLS | G&G ARMAMENT PIRAHNA SL SILVER!

Hey friends!

Welcome back to the blog! I’m back with another review and in this one, we’ll be looking at the G&G Armament Piranha MK I’s longer counterpart, the G&G Pirahna SL, also from Extreme Airsoft! Both the Piranha MK1 and the Pirahna SL are in-house pistol designs, built and made by G&G that feature their new Gas System to increase gas efficiency. I recently reviewed the MK1 and whilst they are internally very similar, I wanted to chat about the differences in appearance!

As always, let’s chat about the build first and foremost - the SL also has a full alloy slide that is ported, but the SL’s ported slide reveals a silver fluted outer barrel that sits on top of the polymer frame. The slide is also longer. Like the MK1, its frame also has a wide trigger guard and a textured pistol grip to make it more comfortable for the end-user and on this variant, there is also (albeit a longer) lower front rail that can be used for attachments such as torches or lasers. It still features the split slide design, where only the rear half of the slide moves backwards so less force is required to cycle the pistol as the weight of the moving parts has been heavily reduced. Other features include a large magazine release, an ambidextrous slide release and a trigger lock push-button safety on the trigger itself. Out of the two pistols, aesthetically I do prefer the SL - as I like the longer slide. The colour scheme of the pistol is really eye-catching - black with silver accents and silver fluted outer barrel. The markings on the pistol, from the G&G logo to the laser-etched (I think) Pirahna branding on the pistol grip makes this pistol a very good looking secondary.

Internally, it is the same as the MK 1 - it features an advanced hop-up system that is part of G&G Armament's new gas system. The hop-up unit and the inner barrel are an all one drop in unit and you can adjust the hop-up without having to split the pistol - instead, it’s adjusted from the front of the pistol. Simply pop the hop-up adjustment tool (which is included in the case) down the barrel and twist. It has a positive click so you’ll know it has securely locked into place. To improve gas efficiency, it has G&G’s new Ceramic Whirl Valve - in a nutshell, this means that less gas is wasted and more is transferred to the BB!

Additional features of the Pirahna include a threaded outer barrel which gives you the option of running mock suppressors and tracer units. The outer barrel is also locked into place to reduce slide and trigger wobble increasing the accuracy of your shots.

So what is included in the box? The Pirahna SL comes in a pistol carry case and in the case along with a 24rnd Green Gas Magazine, a 20 rnd decorative magazine (which has fake bullets in to really look the part), a transparent speed loader, and the Hop-Up 'Rip Round' adjustment tool can be found.

Like the MK1, the SL feels nice in your hand - it sits comfortably and feels ‘grippy’ thanks to the textured pistol grip. The 24 rnd gas mag when inserted gives it a good weight and this is also the case with the 20 rnd mag too however with this one inserted, it looks more balanced. Whichever mag you use, the weight feels evenly distributed. The split ported slide makes this pistol look really quite spicy.

In terms of performance, the mags are easy to load with a speedloader and easy to gas up. I won’t be able to put this through a skirmish until May at the earliest so I also tested this on the speed course at Extreme Airsoft to get a feel of what it’s like to run with. The split slide design allows the pistol to cycle quicker so I did get to shoot more rounds in a shorter time frame and the mags (both the decorative and regular 24 rnd mag) for the SL did seem to perform better on a cold day when I tried them than the MK1 did, however, I’m not a huge fan of the decorative magazine simply because it’s a lot longer yet doesn’t have as many shots? Surely a longer extended looking mag should have MORE shots. It looks cool for sure, but I prefer having more shots, especially during a skirmish.

The G&G Armament Pirahna SL retails at Extreme Airsoft for £219.99 and with my code ‘femmefatale’ you can grab 5% off!

Kydex Holsters for the Pirahna range of G&G pistols are available from Deadly Customs (Use code ‘femmefatale’ for 10% off!)

GUNS | G&G ARMAMENT PIRAHNA SILVER MK I!

Hey friends!

Welcome back to the blog! Today I have another review for you, and in this one, we’re looking at the G&G Armament Piranha MK I from Extreme Airsoft! The G&G Piranha MK1 is an in-house pistol design, built and made by G&G that features their new Gas System to increase gas efficiency meaning you get more shots, quicker, or is that just the hype?

Let’s first talk about the build - it has a full alloy slide that is ported to reveal a silver outer barrel that sits on a polymer frame. The frame features a wide trigger guard and a textured pistol grip for additional end-user comfort. There is also a front lower pistol rail that is perfect for a torch or laser. One of the Pirahna’s most notable features is the split slide design, in which only the rear half of the slide moves backwards so less force is required to cycle the pistol as the weight of the moving parts has been heavily reduced. It also has a large magazine release, an ambidextrous slide release and a trigger lock push-button safety on the trigger itself. The colour scheme of the pistol is quite aesthetically pleasing - mostly black with silver accents and the markings on the pistol, from the G&G logo to the laser-etched (I think) Pirahna branding on the pistol grip makes this pistol a very good looking secondary.

Internally, the pistol features an advanced hop-up system that is part of G&G Armament's new gas system. The hop-up unit and the inner barrel are an all one drop in unit and what I particularly like about the Pirahna is that hop-up can be adjusted without having to split the pistol - instead it’s adjusted from the front of the pistol.

Unlike other pistols on the market, this doesn’t come in a standard cardboard box, it comes in a pistol carry case which is a really nice touch. In the case, you get the Piranha MK I Gas Blowback Pistol a 24rn Green Gas Magazine, a transparent speed loader, and the Hop-Up 'Rip Round' adjustment tool.

Immediately on getting the Pirahna MK I out of the box, it feels nice in your hand - the textured pistol grip sits comfortably and feels ‘grippy’. When the mag is inserted, the Pirahna has a good weight to it and the weight is evenly distributed. I like the split slide design and the ported slide looks *chef’s kiss*.

But how is it to use? Well, the mags are easy to load with the included speedloader and easy to gas up. As we aren’t skirmishing at the moment (the date is approaching though!) I haven’t taken this out into a game yet but I did give it a thorough run-through on the target range at the Department CQB in Croft. The split slide design allows the pistol to cycle quicker so I did get to shoot in very quick succession which was awesome. When the mags were cold, and it was a pretty cold day when I tested it, I didn’t see any improvement in gas usage but when the mags were warmed up to body temp the gas did last longer before needing to re-gas. I think in this respect it will be more gas efficient in warmer weather. Compared to other pistols I’ve used, the Pirahna doesn’t feel as sturdy, but I can’t put my finger on why. I think this could possibly be because I’m used to using chunky pistols like Glocks and the Pirahna is a more slender, sophisticated shape. Overall I think it’s a nice, clean design from G&G and a perfect option for fast-paced CQB.

As for price, it retails at £149.99 at Extreme Airsoft here and you can save 5% with my code 'femmefatale' at checkout!

GEAR | FAST CHEST RIG II PLUS FROM GUNFIRE.COM!

Hi friends!

Welcome back to the blog! Today I have another first impression for you in collaboration with gunfire.com and in this blog post, we’ll be looking at the Fast Chest Rig II PLUS by Primal Gear!

The Fast Chest Rig II PLUS is a Chest Rig that has been constructed from Cordura fabric to provide a durable and comfortable method of carrying for airsofters that features three open AR15 / AK pouches with (one of my favourite features of the rig) integrated polymer inserts to stabilise the pouches. On the sides of the rig, there are two single pouches for pistol magazines or essentials such as a multitool/flashlight and the front pouch opens up to reveal an organiser inside. The front pouch also has a hook and loop panel so users can attach patches. The PLUS version of the rig features an additional pouch as well - a dangler that has a removable organiser perfect for cylindrical items such as batteries or shotgun shells. This pouch is removable and can be attached to this or another vest using the hook and loop fastener.

The rig has completely adjustable crossover straps - and are easy to adjust. What I find with some chest rigs that aim to be ‘completely adjustable’ is that they don’t really adjust small enough for women and younger players. In my experience with the Fast Chest Rig II PLUS, this isn’t the case - it adjusted small enough for me to wear it comfortably over my UBAC (for reference I’m 5”4 and wear a UK size 8/10). The adjustability of the rig also means that during cold weather I could also wear it comfortably over a hoodie or softshell. It sits nicely on my chest and protects my abdominal region, the dangler pouch also helps protect the top portion of my pelvic area. As it’s a chest rig it doesn’t offer much protection for your back so I wouldn’t wear the rig as is for CQB, but the back of the vest has hook and loop velcro so it can be attached to a plate carrier. This is definitely how I would wear it for CQB, and is a nice little feature that increases the usability of the rig.

The retention of the pouches is fantastic and the polymer inserts mean it is easy to reindex magazines if you don’t have a dump pouch - with other chest rigs I own I’ve had to purchase these inserts separately so I think it’s great value that these are included. The pistol mag pouches also have great retention and as I mentioned earlier are versatile in what they can carry! The front pouch and dangler pouches both have ample storage space. The front pouch is flatter so I think this would be perfect for storing documents, intel and other flat items such as packs of primers, whilst the dangler pouch expands a little more - I would potentially use this for any med supplies or more bulky items!

Are there any changes/improvements I would make to the vest? Although I haven’t had a chance to use this in a game yet, yes - I do see one improvement I would make, as with everything there is always something that can be improved on a product. I would love to see this rig have open pistol mag pouches with the same polymer inserts - whilst it is great the current pouches can fit a variety of kit like torches and multitools, I’m not a fan of paracord.

The rig is available from the Gunfire website (here) in MultiCam, Grey, Olive, Tan/Coyote and Black. The rig is currently on sale, with the MultiCam version that I have priced at €47,10 (which is around £40 at the current exchange rate).

ACCESSORIES | WOSPORT SPITFIRE TRACER UNIT!

Hey friends!

Welcome back to the blog! Way back in November 2020 when we were still allowed to play airsoft, I played at one of my favourite haunts - the Department CQB and unfortunately broke my tracer unit (F in chat). Since then I’ve been in the market for a new tracer unit but hadn’t seen anything that really tickled my fancy until I saw the WoSport Spitfire Tracer Unit from Extreme Airsoft.

The WoSport Spitfire Tracer Unit is a tracer unit that not only lights up tracer BBs but also aims to replicate Muzzle flash with 3 forward-facing LEDs, it is designed to be used with airsoft pistols and rifles. The LEDs on the unit produce an orange fire-like flash for every BB fired. It brings an element of realism to airsoft AEGs and pistols but when this tracer unit is used on a GBBR however, the gas escaping the barrel makes the flash look even more impressive and realistic.

What exactly are tracer units? For those who are unfamiliar with tracer units, they are small battery-powered devices that attach to the outer barrel of an airsoft pistol or rifle and produce a flash of light as the BB passes through it to illuminate glow in the dark or ‘tracer’ BBs. Once the light ‘charges’ the BB, it comes out of the unit glowing either green or red (depending on the unit and BBs) which makes it easier to identify the direction of travel and hits on targets. On full-auto, a stream of tracer BBs looks like a laser beam. They’re a favourite for players who play CQB and during night ops.

The housing is made from metal and has a graphic of a pig breathing fire in white on one side, on the other side it says ‘TRACER’ and its country of manufacture. It has an 11mm CW thread and comes with a 14mm CCW thread adapter, which expands its compatibility. The unit itself is also super light, weighing in at 74g meaning it is suitable for both pistols and rifles. Its compact size means it can be installed inside some suppressors and also hidden inside rail systems. It is powered by a rechargeable Lithium battery inside the housing which is recharged by a micro USB. On a full charge, it can provide 4 hours of use time. It has an illuminated on/off switch that also functions as the battery status indicator which will pulse red when charging. On the box, it says that it has been tested up to and can sustain 35 RPS and it does have a built-in motion sensor to turn itself off after long periods of inactivity.

It comes in a well-presented box that doesn’t feel flimsy - which I think would be great for storing it when not in use. In the box, it comes with a 14mm CCW adapter and a USB charging cable (although you can use any). To get started, you need to twist the end with the LED windows off to connect the micro USB to charge it - once you plug it in, it will pulse red until done. It does come with some charge but it’s always best to use it fully charged. It’s easy to attach with the adapter - I tested it on the GHK G5 because I wanted to test it on a GBBR so I could capture the gas escaping (this was harder to caption than I thought it would be!). On use I was impressed with the flash, and it performed flawlessly in a dark environment. To my surprise, the flash was also quite bright in daylight (see the first pic in the review) meaning you could, if you wanted, use this in lighter conditions. It has two modes - tracer and tracer with flash so if you wanted something more stealthy ie without the flash you still have that option. Although it’s not the smallest tracer unit I’ve ever used, it is by far my favourite. The muzzle flash isn’t so realistic that it could be confused with a real muzzle flash but it does look f*cking cool, and that’s all we really want as airsofters, isn’t it? Overall, I think this is a cool bit of kit to have and definitely something to consider if you play a lot of indoor games!

From Extreme Airsoft it retails for £69.99 (you can use my code ‘femmefatale’ for 5% off!)

ACCESSORIES | DEADLY CUSTOMS 40MM GRENADE HOLSTER

Hey friends!

Welcome back to the blog! Today I’ll be giving you my thoughts on the 40mm Grenade Holster from Deadly Customs. There are SO many different carrying options for airsoft impact grenades on the market right now from traditional 40mm pouches to lightweight Kydex holsters so it can be pretty overwhelming to choose a carrying system that works for you. I personally prefer Kydex holsters to traditional fabric pouches for their durability and also retention. Deadly Customs is a relatively new company on the scene so I figured it was time to try out their products.

The 40mm Grenade Holster from Deadly Customs is a Kydex carrying system that has been designed specifically for airsoft impacts that is compatible with any MOLLE system. Although there’s really not a great deal to talk about in terms of features as they are a super simple bit of kit – just moulded thermoplastic with an attachment system, this simply means there’s less to go wrong. One of the main selling points of Kydex carriers is that they are really lightweight so are perfect for low drag loadouts.

They can be attached to a plate carrier or belt with either a malice clip or combat loop (which are compatible with any MOLLE system) that you select at the point of ordering. For all of my 40mm grenade holsters from DC I have opted for the malice clip (out of habit mostly). I like the malice clips because they’re easy to attach/detach when needs be and they’re also secure. Although you can attach them to any MOLLE system, I prefer to have mine on my belt set-up. The holsters allow them to be within easy reach so the deployment of them is smooth when needs be. They’re also easy to reindex.

The 40mm grenade holster from Deadly Customs fits all of the following: all versions of the Tectonic Innovations Quake Grenades, the Tectonic Innovations Neutron, TRMR, Alphatec Grenades, Pulse Armament B1 Grenades, EG WP40 Smoke Grenades, TAG Rounds and the Oshiboom Grenades (however as the Oshibooms are a little smaller than the other 40mm grenades on this list Deadly Customs recommends a few wraps of tape around the grenade to make it fit more securely)

The holsters are available in Black, Olive Drab Green, Coyote Brown and the Deadly Cus-Tom graphic print (for those that want something a little different). They all retail for £16.99 from the Deadly Customs website (where you can use my discount code ‘femmefatale’ to save 10% on your entire order) or you can also find them at stockists such as Extreme Airsoft, High Pressure Airsoft and Fire Support.

GUNS | SPECNA ARMS SA-B12!

Hey friends!

Welcome back to the blog! For the first review of March I’m looking at the Specna Arms SA-B12 AEG from Gunfire

If you’re a regular reader of the blog, you’ll know I’ve reviewed a few guns from the Specna Arms range of AEGs and the SA-B12 is another M4 replica in this affordable line of AEGs. This model, like many of the others in the SA range is made mostly from a zinc/aluminium alloy and reinforced with steel parts which includes all the screws, pins and sling swivels! The most notable outward feature of the SA-B12 is the 8”, modular, keymod handguard. The handguard has a 22mm top RIS rail for sights etc (there’s a set of Ironsights included in the box), a polymer pistol grip and an adjustable stock with an anti-slip texture on the stock butt that houses the battery. It also has a standard flash hider that is mounted on a 14mm, left-hand thread. The body has been anodised and powder coated which gives this AEG more corrosion and abrasion resistance. The body has USMC markings in white which add to the look of the replica. In my review images I'm using a PTS EPM1 but there is a steel magazine included in the box that has complimentary markings to the body.

As for internals, the gearbox is reinforced with a steel mainspring guide on the cylinder head which is the element of the Enter & Convert system. There is a type 2 cylinder and a steel breaker and a metal hop-up chamber. The upgraded version is also equipped with some new, improved internal parts including a set of reinforced steel gears, a steel spring guide, lightweight, polymer piston, aluminium, sealed piston head and metal cylinder head. The Enter & Convert system allows the user to rapidly change the spring to upgrade or downgrade the FPS without the need for any specialist tools or equipment.

The SA-B12 is fully compatible with LiPo/LiFe and also Lithium iOn batteries, I did need to have it downgraded by the team at Gunfire before shipping, as the stock spring chrono’s around 410 FPS which is too hot for UK airsoft sites. There is an M90 spring included in the box, which allows the FPS to be lowered to around 310 FPS.

How is it to use? It has a good weight to it, but it isn’t too heavy which makes it feel sturdy. There’s no wobble and overall it does feel very durable. I think the aesthetics are good for the price, however, the only thing I didn’t particularly like about the SA-B12 was the stock it came with out of the box as it felt a little low end, however, it is comfortable to shoulder and given the price point of the AEG, it is understandable. Although we can’t play at the moment due to the national lockdown in England I did take it on a shooting course to get a feel for it. It’s a nice size to move around a tight CQB site, isn’t too heavy and shot consistently on both semi and full-auto firing modes.

At the moment it’s out of stock on the Gunfire website however it retails for €239,30 which is (at the time of writing) £207.55 which is a great budget-friendly price point!
