GBB | VFC MAXIM DEFENSE MD9-K GBB SMG!

Hey team! Welcome back to the blog.

In this first impressions review, we're going to be taking a look at the VFC Maxim Defense MD9-K GBB SMG in black from my friends over at BZ Tactical

The Maxim Defence MD9-K GBB SMG is fully licensed by Maxim Defense and built on VFC's V3 GBB architecture. It aims to replicate the real-steel MD9-K down to the tiniest detail - proper violent cycling, a crisp trigger, and loads of adaptability for tight CQB, but how does it stack up against other SMG’s on the market?

Build-wise, because it's a fully licensed Maxim Defense build, there are authentic engraved rollmarks, accurate receiver dimensions, and official hardware, including the signature Maxim Steel HATEBRAKE muzzle device and the free-float M-LOK handguard with the M-RAX handstop that comes pre-installed.

One of the standout aspects of this SMG for me is the mag compatibility - the lower takes standard VFC/Umarex Glock 17, 18C, 19 and 45 gas magazines, including the extended 50-round stick mags. So if you're already running a Glock sidearm, you can share mags straight into your primary rather than building out an entirely separate magazine ecosystem.

It has the Maxim Gen7 SCW retractable stock, which takes you from 435mm collapsed, all the way up to 555mm extended for when you need a stable shoulder position. The controls are fully ambidextrous too: charging handle, steel mag catch, and fire selector, so switching shoulders isn't a fight. There's also a flared, heavily textured magwell that doubles as a second grip point if you're into running a proper magwell hold in tight spaces.

Now we’ve looked at the build, let’s go through the internal specs. It runs on a lightweight CNC aluminium bolt carrier set, which cuts down reciprocating weight to speed up cycling and improve gas efficiency. In practice that should mean quicker split times and a snappier full-auto response on green gas.

First impressions on opening the box are good, although the ‘AIRSOFT .6mm’ writing on the box does give me a bit of an ick - at least you know it’s an airsoft replica! The replica weighs around 2kg so it feels good in hand and the materials are exactly what you’d expect for VFC. The stock is easy to deploy and stow away. As it’s such a short replica when the stock is stowed, I preferred shooting it when the stock was deployed. So how does it shoot? The trigger was really crisp and the recoil was really fun! Consistency was good - better on semi than full auto but I think this was down to the temp in the range. The rate of fire was fab and I loved the fact that when I looked back on the footage you can see the BBs moving in the extended mag - very cool indeed.

In the box, you get the VFC Maxim Defense MD9-K GBB SMG in Black, a 45-round gas magazine, pre-installed Maxim M-RAX handstop and the all important user manual & maintenance guide. Overall, I think if you’re a player looking for an ultra-compact and manoeuvrable SMG without giving up fun recoil or handling, this one's definitely one to consider adding to your collection. Although on the pricier side for an SMG, it is in line with what I'd expect it to be, being a VFC replica.

From BZ Tactical, it retails for £545.00 but you can use my code FF5 for 5% off! (Not affiliate, just saving y’all some money)

GBB | KWA ATP-GT GBB PISTOL CARBINE KIT BUNDLE!

Hey team! Welcome back to the blog.

In this first impressions review, we're taking a look at the KWA ATP-GT GBB Pistol Carbine Kit Bundle from my friends over at BZ Tactical.

The ATP-GT is KWA's latest in their training pistol lineup, taking design cues from the ATP-LE and adding some upgrades on top. It's aimed at both airsoft players and training professionals who want something that feels a bit closer to the real thing, and paired with the Carbine Kit, it turns into something a lot more versatile than your standard GBB pistol.

So let’s talk about the internals of the ATP-GT. At the heart of the ATP-GT is KWA's New System 3 (NS3) tech, which gives it noticeably punchier recoil that's meant to mirror the real thing. It's paired with a precision drop-in trigger, so the whole shooting experience feels a lot more deliberate and responsive than a standard blowback pistol. You also get toolless hop-up adjustment, so you can fine-tune your accuracy without having to carry extra tools around.

As for the build: the ATP-GT also features an ambidextrous magazine release and the slide has been updated with a textured finish for better grip, and it's optic-ready too, so you've got flexibility for whatever sighting setup you prefer. It also comes with an M11+ threaded muzzle, so you can pop on a tracer unit or mock suppressor if that's your thing.

Then there's the Carbine Kit itself, which is where this bundle really earns its keep. It adds a flared magwell for faster, smoother reloads, an integrated QD mount so you can mount it to a sling, and a built-in grip storage compartment that holds a spare magazine for quick access when you need it. On top of that, there's a customisable Picatinny stock mount, so whether you fancy a foldable, drop, or telescopic stock, you can build it out exactly how you want. It stays lightweight despite everything you're bolting onto it, which is exactly what you want if you're planning on running it in CQB.

It comes nicely presented in a KWA branded box and has a good weight to it when you remove it from the box. The construction feels sound and the materials used feel of great quality - exactly what you’d expect from a name such as KWA. It is already set-up in the carbine kit so there’s no tech skills needed.

So we’ve chatted about the build and internals but how does it shoot? It was consistent and performed well, even in the slightly cold weather we were having during the rangetest. I will say the recoil doesn’t really mimic that of a real firearm, but it is punchy and fun to shoot. The stock is comfortable and easy to shoulder making the whole platform easy to manipulate too. I think you would need a fair few mags to take this for a proper run on a game day but apart from that it’s fun to use and looks really cool.

In the box, you get the KWA ATP-GT GBB Pistol, ATP-GT Carbine Kit, a ATP-GT Magazine, the all important manual, other included accessories. If you’re an airsoft player who’s looking for a realistic pistol carbine kit or someone who is looking for an affordable alternative to real steel, this is definitely something that you should take a look at! I think this would also be a big hit with collectors.

From BZ Tactical, the KWA ATP-GT GBB Pistol Carbine Kit Bundle retails for £295.00, and you can use my code FF5 for 5% off! At the time of writing it was on sale for £275.00 (my discount code unfortunately can’t be used in conjunction with sales or other offers.

USEFUL AIRSOFT AND MILSIM GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS WITH TACTICALSHOP24

Hey team!

Welcome back to the blog. In this blog post I’ve teamed up with TacticalShop24.com to bring you some useful airsoft and MilSim gear recommendations that are available in Europe for different budgets and applications!

The Templar Gear Astrolabe GEN2 Admin Panel is a semi-rigid clamshell design that mounts smartphones, GPS units, or tablets directly to MOLLE platforms giving users instant access to their phone, GPS or tablet without breaking weapon grip or exposing electronics. Built from 500D Cordura with IRR-treated HDPE reinforcement, this 80g pouch protects devices while keeping them accessible, and is an affordable option for front-panel organisation on plate carriers and chest rigs.

Clawgear - Drop Down Velcro Utility Pouch - 47 EUR

The Clawgear Drop Down Velcro Utility Pouch mounts beneath the main plate carrier platform, keeping medical kits, navigation tools, and tactical snacks accessible without adding torso bulk or interfering with your replica making it a great choice for minimalist load-bearing setups on multi-day recon ops.

Built from 500D nylon, it offers 2.25 litres of storage that deploys instantly. It has a velour interior that accepts additional organisers, and the reinforced base handles loaded mags or battery packs without sagging. Full-surface hook velcro gives a solid attachment to compatible plate carriers, while rear MOLLE loops allow belt mounting for soft armour setups.

Invader Gear - Reaper QRB Plate Carrier - 129 EUR

The Invader Gear Reaper QRB Plate Carrier features a silent Quick Release buckle system that makes this perfect for covert MilSim ops. Built for players needing low-profile training plate/insert compatibility, it accommodates SAPI plates and hard inserts while staying streamlined. It features 600D construction that keeps it durable without bulk, and has full-surface laser-cut MOLLE webbing that supports mag pouches, admin panels, and other essentials.

The Warrior MCR MK1 Type 2 Chest Rig delivers a proven platform for users who need swift reloads and flexible configuration across multiple calibres and platforms. Built from MultiCam laminate with UV-resistant nylon stitching to US Mil Spec standards, this fully loaded chest rig pairs naturally with belt systems for integrated belt-and-chest load distribution during extended ops.

EARMOR M32 Plus Tactical Headset With Mic - 99 EUR

When your team is in the thick of it, you need to hear commands and environment - but not the concussion of pyrotechnics. This headset suppresses impulse noise while maintaining situational awareness and clear radio transmission. The Earmor M32 Plus delivers active hearing protection with integrated communication capability, built around a NATO-standard connector that ties into tactical radio systems without adapting or rewiring.

Templar Gear - Fast Pistol Magazine Pouch - 17.10 EUR

The Templar's Gear Fast Pistol Magazine Pouch solves the problem of retention systems slowing down a mag change under pressure. Its open-top design ditches button snaps and retention flaps, relying instead on polymer frame tension and shock cord for secure, snag-free carry.

Built from 500D Cordura laminate with polymer reinforcements, this single-mag pouch gives immediate access to double-stack pistol magazines across platforms including Glock, Beretta APX, CZ P07/P09, and Walther P99. The open-top design lets users index and draw by muscle memory alone, even in darkness or under stress.

Nitecore - MPL25 Pistol Light - 89 EUR

The Nitecore NPL25 puts 900 lumens of white light from its UHi 20 LED directly ahead of your muzzle - enough to identify targets and navigate confined spaces when every millisecond counts. Built for compact pistols, it integrates with Glock and Picatinny rail systems in a low-profile footprint that won't snag on clothing or holsters.

Airsoft players running building clearances, and competitive shooters on low-light courses all need the same thing: precise target identification without losing situational awareness in the dark. At just 56mm, the NPL25 sits flush with most Glock frames, staying clear of the slide to avoid snag points during draws or holstering. An ambidextrous switch allows activation from either side, working for right- and left-handed shooters alike.
