Welcome back! Today I have another review, and in this one, we’ll be looking at the VFC Avalon Samurai EDGE CQB from Extreme Airsoft. The Avalon Samurai EDGE AEG from VegaForceCompany or VFC as they are also known is a premium carbine AEG within the Avalon range of airsoft guns.
It features a mostly metal construction (aluminium and zinc alloy) with a few steel elements that includes the flash hider, shell ejection window flap, and the forward assist. It also has a few polymer parts including the QRS pistol grip (that has anti-slip texture) and an adjustable, telescopic stock. The VFC Avalon Samurai EDGE has a Modular M-LOK CNC hand-guard that features a top 22 mm RIS rail (in sections meaning it doesn’t run the whole length of the hand-guard). The lower receiver has the Avalon Weapons Works markings giving the RIF a premium feel. The receiver also has the ambidextrous fire selector, mag release button, an operational bolt-catch, and an enlarged trigger guard for user comfort. For the stock, the VFC Avalon Samurai Edge has an adjustable VFC QRS (Quick Response System) stock which is where the battery is housed. It has a sling swivel, a short RIS 22 mm rail and it is padded for added comfort.
Internally, the Samurai EDGE is impressive on paper right out of the box. It has the ECS Version 2.1 gearbox that includes an integrated Digital Firing Control System, reinforced piston, steel ball-bearing spring guide, Ultra High-Speed 8 mm ball-bearings, set of steel High-Speed gears, an aerodynamic CNC nozzle, av reinforced tappet plate, temperature-resistant contacts and a High Torque motor. This is joined by a Maple Leaf Competitive Grade Hop-Up bucking, a Maple Leaf Competitive Grade external barrel, a quick spring change system and a rotary style hop-up.
One of the main talking points about the Samurai EDGE is the Digital Firing Control System. This offers the user fire-mode programming which gives you the option of 3-round burst, a piston reset function, automatic tension detection and an alarm that warns the user about battery discharge. Except for 3 round burst, these features help prolong the life of the weapon.
On getting the VFC Avalon Samurai EDGE out of the box, it has a good weight to it thanks to the mostly metal construction and there’s no doubt that it is a good looking AEG. I like the look and functionality of the M-LOK handguard and the fact the RIS rail is in sections gives it a very unique look. M-LOK rail pieces are easy to add onto the hand-guard to expand its attachment capacity to include torches PEQ boxes etc. The red trigger is also a nice touch.
The battery is easy to install via the removable back part of the stock and on 0.2g BBs, it chronos consistently at 323 FPS which is more than enough for any CQB site in the UK. It fires with no issues on both semi-auto and full-auto (and has a good rate of fire too). The 3 round burst is a great feature although I didn’t use that during a game as I was limited to semi only.
Despite being a full-sized M4, it isn’t clunky or too long to use effectively in really tight, CQB and the butt pad makes it comfortable to shoulder. As it’s full metal, it is a bit weightier than other polymer M4s but it isn’t uncomfortable. I chose to run it with a sling just to prevent my arms from becoming tired after a full day of airsoft. I used the QRS magazines but it does have pretty good mag compatibility with G&G, PTS and also KWA mid-caps.
In the box, you get the VFC Avalon Samurai EDGE AEG in black, a mid-cap QRS 120 round magazine, RIS rail for M-LOK, a set of KAC iron sights, a Mini-Tamiya to Deans connector and the all-important manual!
