SUPPORT WEAPONS | KRYTAC TRIDENT LMG ENHANCED!

Welcome back to the blog! You may have seen from my Instagram recently that I’ve been trying out a new class of weapon, support guns. So in the next couple of weeks, I’ll be trying out a range of LMGs in partnership with Extreme Airsoft and first on the list is the Krytac Trident LMG Enhanced. Is it a legit support gun? Or just an M4 with a box mag? 

The KRYTAC Trident LMG Enhanced is KRYTAC’s take on the classic support gun platform, although it’s not new to the airsoft industry, it is new to me so I thought I’d give it a go. It has the stylings that we have come to recognise from the brand but in a beefed-up form. It has a full aluminium alloy receiver and the Milspec KRYTAC KeyMod handguard System - the handguard has space for KeyMod accessory rails to be installed on the sides so you can attach PEQ boxes/lasers/torches and the receiver has a short 20mm RIS / RAS rail for sights/scopes. The upper receiver is styled like a traditional LMG but the lower receiver is that of a KRYTAC M4. On the receiver, we also see the ambidextrous fire selector. As with the rest of the gun, it features the DEFIANCE pistol grip, an ambidextrous sling plate and the KRYTAC six-point adjustable polymer stock which features a large battery space, a small Picatinny rail as well as a QD sling mount point. 

Internally, the Trident LMG Enhanced has the KRYTAC Mechbox Gearbox with 8mm Ball Bearing Bushings, an Easy Change Spring System for quick on-the-field spring swap outs, an adjustable rotary style hop-up and an internal MOSFET unit. It is rear-wired to mini-Tamiya. It also features a semi-automatic firing mode, making it different to other LMGs on the market. 

It comes with a massive 5000-round box magazine that uses a 9v battery. What’s special about the KRYTAC box mag is that it uses a more heavy-duty motor than standard LMG box magazines. Thanks to the M4 lower receiver, Trident LMG can use standard AEG Magazines as well so, if your box mag runs out, you have the option to use an M4 mag. It has a little red button on the underside of the mag that winds it, which is really convenient. There is a little hatch on the top of the mag similar to that of a high cap and this is how the mag is loaded, but I’ve noticed that it doesn’t load completely unless you open the tab on the mags body and pour the BBs/shake the mag at the same time. This seems to be the only way to ensure the top portion of the mag fills and this echos what other reviewers have said. 

In terms of size, the Trident LMG Enhanced is a lot more compact than other more traditional LMGs. The compact size and semi-auto firing mode combined means that this LMG is super versatile on the field - from offering support and suppressive fire to switching to precise shots in a CQB environment. Being so compact, it’s also pretty lightweight (compared to other alloy LMGs). In regards to looks, I think it’s an aesthetically pleasing weapon - the handguard is beefy and makes it look mean which is exactly what you want in a support weapon. The birdcage style flash hider that we see on other KRYTAC models is also on this, and it’s a pretty nice accessory. It has the same finish as the other KRYTAC models too. 

Out of the box, its performance is impressive - it has great range and the groupings achieved on single-shot are tight. On full auto, it absolutely rips. The stream of BBs is consistent and there were no issues with jamming or misfeeds. It chrono’s at a respectable 310 FPS on 0.2g BBs with a ROF of 24 RPS. 

One cool little fact about this AEG is that it was featured in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands video game, despite it having no real steel counterpart. 

What don’t I like about it? Or think could be improved? It has quite a long trigger pull. It has been out for a few years now, so the KeyMod rail is a little outdated, I would love to see a MKII MLOK version - this would take it up a notch in terms of aesthetics and usability (for me at least, as all of my rail pieces, are MLOK after making the switch a few years ago) and opening the second tab to fully load the box mag is also a little annoying. 

Overall, I think KRYTAC has done a stellar job with this LMG - it’s compact, lightweight and offers players versatility and great performance on the field (straight out of the box) whilst still being a great looking weapon. It does have a few things that could be improved on, but nothing is perfect. From Extreme Airsoft, the KRYTAC Trident LMG Enhanced is £549.99 which is a pretty hefty investment but I think it would be hard to be disappointed by this. GUNS | KRYTAC ALPINE KRISS VECTOR

Welcome back to the blog! Back in 2017, I reviewed the highly anticipated KRISS Vector AEG shortly before its release and now, 3 years on, I’m reviewing the limited edition Alpine KRISS Vector which is the latest variant of the popular airsoft gun. Although there are a lot of similarities between the Alpine KV and the original KV, there are some stark differences - let’s get down to the review! 

First, let’s talk through the externals, so the Alpine Vector has a polymer one-piece upper with an integrated stock adapter that has all the KRISS/Krytac/Vector markings. It has a full-length metal top rail suitable for any sights/scopes and a Vector MK5 Modular Rail that has 5 rail slot segments, an extended battery cap (one of the things I like so much about this KV) and an Extended outer barrel. The Alpine comes with the Defiance style 14mm CCW flash hider that is found on the Krytac Trident series and the Defiance flip-up sights, which have a dual aperture on the rear sight which makes them perfect for long-range and CQB shooting. Moving along to the stock, the Alpine has a full 6-point polymer stock that has 3 sling points including a QD. 

The bolt release, like the other KV’s is cosmetic but it does have a functioning bolt that opens the hop-up chamber, although there’s no need to use the bolt as you can just open the door yourself and it stays open which makes changing the numbered, rotary style hop-up super quick and easy. It has semi, two-round burst and full auto firing modes on an ambidextrous selector and an ambidextrous safety switch – the safety switch prevents the trigger being pulled and also disconnects the battery and releases the spring to take the stress off the internals when on safe. 

Moving onto the internals. We’ll start with the pistol grip where the battery is housed – this has been updated from a Mini Tamiya connection to a T-plug or Deans connector (which offers a much more reliable connection). The metal plate on the bottom near the pistol grip reveals the spring guide for a quick change spring (no tools are needed). It has a KRISS Vector Gen II pivoting trigger, an 8mm VECTOR gearbox, and an integrated KRYTAC FET system as well as an electronic trigger. 

When I chrono’d the Alpine it was pretty consistent at 337 FPS on 0.2g BBs with a ROF of 24. It chrono’s within legal limits but how does it perform and is it any different to the original KVs? Once the hop-up is set the range is on par with the original KV (which I was pleasantly surprised with, in 2017 with it being such a compact gun). The trigger response is improved and the ROF is higher so this is even more fun on full-auto. 

In regards to aesthetics, I am absolutely in love with how the Alpine - I think it’s a huge improvement on the original KV thanks to the 6-point stock and the MK5 Modular Rail. The extended battery cap adds an extra little something-something and I’m here for it! 

Is there anything I think could be improved? Honestly? No. I think all the things I wanted to be improved on the original Vector have been implemented on this model. The new stock makes it easier to shoulder, and the new modular rail means you can add more attachments. I would love to see this shape of Vector in the black and black/tan colourways because whilst the colour is cool AF - it is hard to keep clean and stands out like a sore thumb but is great for a Princess Leia or Stormtrooper cosplay!

FEMME FATALE AIRSOFT'S FAVOURITE REPLICA'S 2019!

Welcome back to the blog and the last of our 2019 round-ups! SHOT Show 2020 is right around the corner and today I'm looking back on the airsoft replicas I've enjoyed using the most over the last year. Again, these are just my personal favourites (yours probably will be different) that I have used in 2019 - meaning they more than likely aren't groundbreaking or the newest releases, simply the ones I've enjoyed using the most.

Specna Arms Edge SA-E01

At number 5 is the Specna Arms Edge AEG from Gunfire that has been manufactured under the license of Rock River Arms. Rock River Arms is a well known American firearms manufacturer and what makes the Edge special is not only the RRA license but that it is also equipped with GATE technology.

The SA Edge has an Orion Gearbox, which is based on a reinforced shell and is equipped with a mainspring release function. Out of the box, it has a reinforced piston with full steel teeth, an Aluminium seal nozzle & double sealed cylinder head, steel gears, 8mm ball bearings, a rotary hop-up chamber, a 6.03mm precision barrel, a quick change spring system and a QD pistol grip which gives the player quick access to the AEG’s engine without the use of tools. All these features make this one of the best Specna's yet - durable and ready to get to work.

One of the Edge’s most notable features is the GATE X-ASR MOSFET as standard! The MOSFET X-ASR unit will ensure the safety of the components, increase the trigger response and extend the life of the electronics and battery. It has been a fun and reliable gun to use during airsoft skirmishes and its aesthetics are on point. Great work Specna!

PTS X Centurion Arms CM4

At number 4 is the PTS X Centurion Arms CM4, which is an Electric Recoil Gun system that is based on the latest generation KWA AEG 3 system from PTS Syndicate that features a Centurion Arms rail! The ERG simulates recoil via a proprietary Kinetic Feedback System. When used with the proprietary ERG magazine, it has a cut off to make it even more realistic. However when I used this awesome GAT at DFE: Battle for Lost Angeles 2 I decided to use the original PTS EPM for AEGs and I used it as a regular AEG - which is one of the awesome features of the CM4. It has a quick change spring system and included as standard equipment for the CM4 ERG, are PTS’ highly popular proprietary design Enhanced Polymer Grip, Enhanced Back-Up Sight, Enhanced Polymer Magazine and Enhanced Polymer Stock.

The CM4 has one of the most realistic recoils of any AEG that I've used which made it a really fun replica to use during the event - it definitely added an extra element to my game, it has a great weight to it and looks awesome.

RWA Agency Arms Urban Combat Slide Kit for the TM G17

The Agency Arms Urban Combat Slide Kit for the TM G17 from RWA isn't necessarily a replica per se, but it has improved my experience with the Tokyo Marui G17 so I'm going to include it! The Urban Combat Slide Kit is a return to the classic Agency Arms styling but is designed with serious gamers in mind.

This Urban Combat slide comes in a rich back anodized finish and features all the windows, serrations, and attention to detail known from an RWA Agency Arms offering,  It's lightweight and made from CNC aluminium. In the box, the slide kit comes with the RWA Agency Arms Urban Combat 17 Slide Set 2.0, a stainless steel outer barrel, recoil spring and a fibre optic front sight. It comes with a scannable QR code for installation instructions and is easy to install. 

Once installed it takes the boring look of the TM G17 and elevates it to a more curated look, but it's not all about aesthetics - in my experience, it has improved the performance of the pistol, making it more snappy.ar sight 

GBLS DAS GDR-15 CQB

The GBLS DAS GDR-15 CQB AEG takes the number 2 spot this year. The DAS is one of the most controversial airsoft replicas to hit the market because of its £1600 price tag. Why does it have this price tag though? It comes with a hefty price tag because of its most notable feature - the functioning Bolt Carrier Group which allows 100% realistic action from loading and charging to stoppage and reloading drills, making it a perfect training weapon. The cycling of the functioning Bolt Carrier Group generates the recoil and it genuinely is nothing like I’ve ever experienced with an AEG before. The Bolt locks back when the magazine runs out of BBs and will fire upon hitting bolt release when a fresh mag is inserted. Inside the D.A.S is a WA style hop-up chamber, a steel-toothed bolt and at the very centre of the system is a proprietary gearbox.

It also comes with a PTS EPS as standard.

Krytac MKII CRB LEOTEK'd

My LEOTEK'd Krytac MKII CRB from Landwarrior in Dalkeith, Scotland takes the number one spot because it is STILL my favourite AEG to use. The techs at LWA took a standard Krytac MKII CRB (which is a great AEG out of the box anyway) and gave it a full upgrade service which included a Laylax barrel, flat hop, ultimate piston, ultimate 40K motor and a GATE Titan MOSFET which gives you the option to adjust trigger sensitivity, pre-cocking boost, fire selector mode, burst mode, rate of fire and it also provides a low battery warning and battery protection.

It's snappy and fires like a dream. It also looks the tits.

Although this isn't a 'standard' AEG, it isn't completely custom. The LEOTEK option is available to all of LWA's customers.

CUSTOM KRYTAC MKII CRB GANGSTA CITY SET-UP | PTS SYNDICATE | VORTEX | NUPROL

Welcome back to the blog! Today I'm going to be running through my custom Krytac MKII CRB set-up for Gangsta City: Retribution a couple of weeks back! The base for this, as I've said is the new MKII CRB from Krytac that was upgraded to the teeth by Land Warrior Airsoft in Dalkeith, Scotland to include a Titan Gate Mosfet and other goodies that made it a beast to shoot. I'll be doing a full review of this beauty soon so keep your eye out! In the meantime, check out my set-up below:

My front sight was the PTS Unity Tactical FUSION mounting hub - a cool attachment hub that allows you to add multiple attachments based on your needs. It includes attachments such as 45 and 90-degree rails and torch attachments to make sure you have everything you need on the field.

 

For my optic on this build I chose my trusty Vortex SPARC AR. You can check out my review for this wee beauty here (although it is a bit dated now! Maybe I should do another?)

For my ironsights, I used my go-to PTS EPBUIS. You can read my review on the EPBUIS here.

My mags for the weekend were my trusty PTS Syndicate EPM X MAGPODs. They're as reliable, sturdy and durable as the EPMs (my review for those can be read here) but they have the added bonus of having MAGPOD base plate that serves as a monopod in the absence of one. I'll be doing a full review of these soon!

And for the night game, I added a Nuprol tracer unit and the Olight M20SX Javelot kit for tracking my BBs and giving me more visibility at night. The Nuprol tracer unit is powered by 3 x AAA batteries that are housed inside the unit and it is mounted on a CCW thread. To get this on my Krytac I had to remove the rail in order to get the grub screw securing the flash hider out. It was easy to install and worked great during the night games and allowed me to see where my BBs were travelling. My review on the Olight M20SX Javelot kit can be viewed here.

KRYTAC KRISS VECTOR AEG REVIEW!

So here is the review you’ve been waiting for, a review of the most highly anticipated airsoft AEG over the last couple of years – the Krytac KRISS Vector AEG! When Pro Airsoft Supplies contacted me about reviewing a highly anticipated AEG I jumped at the chance (having a feeling that it was indeed the Vector) the next thing I know, the Vector was delivered to my door in time for Paintfest 2017/Diamond Wars. I cannot tell you how excited I was to finally get my hands on the final version of this RIF, I’d seen/shot the pre-production model whilst I was in the States but nothing quite prepared me for the excitement of getting to use one – you can check out my reaction in the unboxing video here.

So let’s get down to the review and first talk through the externals. So this is the production model and is identical to the real KRISS Vector, it has a polymer body (that has all the KRISS/Krytac/Vector markings that you would expect to see on its real steel counterpart) with metal pins that are easy to remove, a full length metal top rail suitable for any sights/scopes – on mine I ran the Shield CQS sight.

The Vector comes with the Defiance style 14mm CCW flash hider that is found on the Krytac Trident series and the Defiance flip up sights, which have a dual aperture on the rear sight which makes them perfect for long range and CQB shooting. Moving along to the stock we have a reinforced polymer stock with a metal sling point underneath that does fit a whole range of slings, it is worth noting that the buttpad on the stock is adjustable – but only by an inch or so. One really cool aspect of the stock is that it folds and locks into place so you can use the vector in its compact form – making it a perfect CQB weapon.

It has a metal rail on front which can be swapped to either side via the pins. The bolt release is entirely cosmetic but the functioning bolt opens the hop up chamber – I found that there’s actually no need to use the bolt for this as you can just open the door yourself and it stays open – a feature that I really like, it makes changing the numbered, rotary style hop up super quick and easy. It has semi, two round burst and full auto firing modes on an ambidextrous selector and an ambidextrous safety switch – the safety switch prevents the trigger being pulled and also disconnects the battery and releases the spring to take the stress off the internals when on safe.

Moving onto the internals, what are we looking at? We’ll start with the pistol grip where the battery is housed – it has a mini tamiya connection and takes a small stock tube lipo (11.1 1100 mAh 20C Nuprol stock tube lipo is what I ran) The metal plate on the bottom near the pistol grip reveals the spring guide for a quick change spring (no tools are needed). It has a really unique internal build and most of the components are V2 compatible for those who want to upgrade theirs, it is worth noting however that the only two parts internally that are not compatible are the tappet plate and cylinder head. It has a polymer piston of which the first 5 teeth are metal. It also features a polymer cylinder head, an Aluminium mech box, 8mm steel bushings, a similar motor to the motor found in the trident series and an electronic control system that is powered by microswitches - two of which handle the fire selection, one for the trigger and one for the cut off leverage system. Overall a very solid internal build out of the box.

How did it fair on the chrono? It was pretty consistent at 330 FPS on 0.2g BBs with a ROF of around 21. 330 FPS is perfect for using this gun in CQB. Now all the features and specs are out of the way, let’s get into what you REALLY want to know: how does it perform and what are my thoughts on it? The Vector is without a doubt one of the best out of the box AEGs I have used in my entire 3 years of airsoft. The terrain for Diamond Wars 2017 was a dense woodland site called Fireball Squadron, and as most of you know I am mainly a CQB player due to preferring close range but the range on the Vector is phenomenal, once the hopup was set I was outranging players using LMGs. The trigger response is snappy, the hopup is easy to adjust and the two round burst is awesome. In regards to aesthetics, I am absolutely in love with how the Vector looks. At the moment, only 95 rd midcaps are available for the Vector, of which I had 3 and this was enough for each mission I took on during Diamond Wars, although I did need to carry a speedloader on the field in case anything got too hairy or I got a little trigger happy (which is easy to do when you're having that much fun)

Is there anything I think could be improved? Yes. Krytac have spent a long time getting the Vector just right and as close to the real steel counterpart as possible but there are still a couple of things that would make this an even better AEG in my opinion. My first gripe is with the mag release, although it is matched to the position on the real version I feel it is too high up for me personally – as I have tiny hands it’s difficult for me to hold the mag and press the release at the same time, I countered this by pressing the release then catching the mag as it was ejected. My only other gripe is the sling point, although it fit my sling attachment in with no issues I would prefer it to be in a different location, perhaps on the body? Or on the top side of the stock. Apart from those tiny things, I found it very hard to find anything that I didn’t like about it.

TROUBLE IN TERRORIST TOWN WITH NODE!

Hey everyone!

So whilst I was in the US I was lucky enough to play a day of Trouble in Terrorist Town with NODE, Jet Desertfox, Unicorn Leah, Tim from Kriss/Krytac and Evike Matt, Miguel and Ryan at a new Airsoft site in Southern California: Project N1.
