Femme Fatale Airsoft's Op Essentials

Hey everyone! So I get a lot of messages from women who are interested in trying out MilSim style Ops but are unsure what to take so I thought I'd put together a list of items that I swear by on Ops lasting more than 24 hours. Now there's no getting round the fact that MilSim style Ops are different for women - we have different needs to men and this is reflected in the differences in kit that we take. My toiletry bag for MilSim style Ops is entirely based on comfort - during a long Op I want to be as comfortable as possible (or as comfortable as the Op will allow me to be!)

Batiste Dry Shampoo.

First on my list is dry shampoo! There are tonnes of brands out there but my personal favourite is Batiste - it is by far the best dry shampoo I have used and they have a comphrehensive range of products for different hair colours, different looks and a huge range of fragrances to choose from, My personal favourite is blush. I usually wear my hair in french plaits for Ops to keep my hair out of the way and generally more manageable but as many of you will know, wearing a helmet and rain/wind can quickly bring about greasy locks which is not only uncomfortable but not amazing for your skin. A couple of sprays of this helps keep my hair in check!

 Miscellar water

Miscellar cleansing water is something relatively new to the beauty industry and it has become a staple item in my toiletry bag. Miscellar water is perfect for times when they're isn't a running water supply to cleanse your face ie camping and Ops! This miracle stuff gets the days dirt and grease out of your pours and doesn't need to be washed off so it's super covienient. It can be used on the eyes and lips as well which is a definite bonus. I always carry a pack of cotton wool pads with this. It leaves my face feeling clean and fresh without having to splash super cold water all over my face and risk getting my kit wet. My favourite brand for this is Garnier, and I usually buy the big bottles from Superdrug so they last me a while!

Johnson's baby wipes

Johnson's baby wipes are a great all-round item that can be used to removed make up (even from the eyes as they're so gentle), as hygiene wipes and also to give your body a quick wipe down during an Op. When there's no showers, I still want to feel fresh and not smell like roadkill and these do a pretty good job! I also use them to clean gear and shoes. Trust me after 15-16 hours in the field there is nothing better than wiping your feet down with one of these badboys and putting on a pair of fresh socks!

Johnson's baby powder

Another product of Johnson's that is really useful is their baby powder (or talc!) I've picked up a lot of tips and tricks over my time in Airsoft and this is one of the golden ones, there are multiple uses for this product during an op - if you have no dry shampoo, rub some talc in your hands and massage into your scalp, this will instantly freshen your hair up! Another use for this is when your feet are cold and wet, massage some talc onto them - it'll dry them out wonderfully and leave them smelling fresh.

Vaseline

I carry this item in my purse wherever I go, after a stint on Roaccutane (acne medication) my lips suffered horrifically and became incredibly dry, often cracking and bleeding. This was an absolute miracle worker for those 10 months I was on the medication and I've found that even though my lips are back to normal, the prolonged cold and wind exposure at MilSim events can cause my lips to become dry and cracked - although the lip therapy pocket size containers are more convenient they are a little more expensive than the regular vaseline tubs.

Simple Kind to Skin light moisturiser

I use this in my daily skin care routine because it is light and absorbs quickly, it doesn't block pours and it isn't full of rubbish that will harm your skin! It keeps your skin hydrated for up to 12 hours but I always find a top up throughout the day. It's not greasy which is fab for people with blemish prone skin like myself! This moisturiser is meant for the face but I find it really useful for the neck and hands too!

 Nivea Double Effect 24h deoderant

I love this deoderant for Ops! It's fragrant and lasts for up to 24 hours, and the roll on rather than the spray means I'm not choking my team mates out in our room/tents! There's not really much else to say about that one, haha. Short and sweet!

 Femfresh hygiene wipes

Apparently, openly admiting to using feminine hygiene products is embarrassing? Fortunately for my followers I don't find owning a vagina and wanting to keep it clean embarrassing or shameful *inserts appropriate sassy emoji* When there are no showers or baths at an Op, I use these to keep myself feeling fresh and clean. These are quite expensive, baby wipes are a cheaper option that does the same thing.

Shewee Extreme

This is by far one of the most useful Op purchases I have made. Never in my life did I think I'd be using a Shewee, let alone writing a blog post about one! These ingenius inventions are perfect for when there are no portaloos (or the poortaloos are so awful you can't bring yourself to go in!), or it's just too cold and you don't want the inconvenience of removing clothes to pee. I purchased my Shewee extreme from Amazon for £11, the regular Shewee comes without the case and extension tube but I found the tube really useful. I was told that it's best to train yourself in the shower to use these as the risk of the funnel overflowing is real! Haha. Cleaning them at events can be tricky, but I carry a 500ml bottle of water mixed with dettol to clean it properly! (You've probably guessed by now, I'm a clean freak!)

Smoothing Serum

I swear by this item when my hair is being less than well behaved at an Op, the smoothing serum prevents it becoming tangled and knotty if I wear my hair down. There are cheaper options such as Tesco's own smoothing serum which does the same job but this one smells lush!

There are also lots of other items in my kit bag that are pretty self explanatory and basic such as hand santiser etc

If you have any Op tips and essential products, leave them in the comments below! I'd love to hear them!

Warrior Assault Systems Recon Plate Carrier Shooters Cut Review!

Hey everyone! Here is a review you've been asking for, for a while - the Warrior Assault Systems Recon Plate Carrier in the Shooters Cut! You've seen it in my photos for the last few months of 2015 and have asked endless questions - I now feel like I know the product well enough to give you an indepth review!

I purchased the Warrior Recon Plate Carrier SC when my previous PCs fell short - a cheap eBay Job and then another cheap £20 jobby from Taiwan Gun (I know a lot of people rave about TG but that's just my experience!) After running with a new team for a fair few weeks who swore by this brand, I thought I'd check it out! My first thought was the expense, and their gear was a hell of a lot more expensive than what I was used to but after trying one of the lads Recon PCs and seeing how well it fitted, I decided to take the plunge and ordered the new Warrior Recon PC in the Shooters cut from UK Tactical, luckily they had a discount code of 20% so I ordered the Warrior Triple Open Mag Pouch and the Warrior Cargo Pack both in MultiCam to accessorize it. The order came to a total of £166.89 with next day delivery.

There were 3 things that I wanted from my new Plate Carrier: for it to be lightweight, low profile and completely adjustable to fit my small frame and the Recon delivered. The Recon Plate Carrier in the Shooters Cut is one of the latest evolutions of Plate Carriers from Warrior and is a lightweight, versatile and low profile alternative to some of their more classic styles such as the DCS. The PC has been designed to keep a ballistics plate in the front plate pocket and a SAPI plate in the back pocket. Both plate pockets however feature a backing of 3D mesh to help with the dispersal of body heat from the shooter and also improve ballistic performance. The PC comes standard with a non ballistic foam insert - perfect for Airsoft, it's a good thickness and gives a distinctive sound when a BB strikes it. The RPC features a ladder style cummerbund that still has MOLLE compatability. The PC itself is covered back and front with a MOLLE system and has a front velcro panel so you can easily swap pre configured weapon specific pouch set ups. As I said I chose to accessorize it with the Triple Open M4 Mag pouch set up and the Cargo pack on the back.

Before we get down to anything else, let's talk about the fit as that was the most important aspect of the carrier for me! The Recon PC is completely adjustable, from its cummerbund to its padded shoulder straps (with wrap arounds for comms and hydration channeling) it can be adjusted to any body shape - I ordered the medium which fits up to a 45" chest. The most important aspect for me is the adjustable waist, with previous plate carriers I have found they just don't tighten up enough for my small frame.

The ladder style cummerbund is attached to the RPCs front via two removable ITW SR clips and back via a velcro panel - this makes it super easy to adjust and it pulls in tight enough for my 26" waist. The shoulder straps allow for adjustment and although I'm not overly booby, it is nice to have a little extra wiggle room in the top with a tight waist. The fit gets a big thumbs up from me! I also love the shooters cut at the shoulders which makes it easier to shoulder your weapon. It's low profile design means it is slim, compact and lightweight, which is perfect for those like me who have a smaller frame.

What's the quality like? It's made from genuine Mil Spec materials and hardware making it durable, hard wearing and great value for money. I have owned this PC for around 6 months now and the foam inserts have held their shape incredibly well! I've fell in it, crawled in it, skidded along concrete floors in this, had pyro land on it and it has no scuffs, tears or any damage - it is filthy from the numerous skirmishes and MilSims it has had to endure but this takes away that new kit shine. I am seriously impressed with this particular PC.

For my Femme Fatale loadout, I run the RPC with the pre configured Warrior Assault Systems Triple
Open M4 Mag pouch, my FFA patch front and centre, a one point sling channeled through the straps alongside my Z-Tac PTT and my hydration system during MilSims and hot summer days. You will also see a tactical sharpie clipped onto the MOLLE of my mag pouches! My Warrior Cargo pack holds all the essentials I need on field from primers for my impact grenades, beebs, gas and disposable pyro. It has a pouch for my water bladder which keeps it separate to protect it. I also have a plastic Warrior Mag pouch on the back for team mates on MilSim ops. My RPC is minimal on accessories but it has everything I need on the field.

Any questions? Post them in the comments section below! :)

Slaydies Series Spotlight Unicorn Leah/@thetacticalunicorn

Hey everyone! So we made it! 2015 is almost over and the last blog post is upon us!
This is an awesome installment in my Slaydies Series of player spotlights: my Women of Airsoft battle sister Unicorn Leah. Leah is currently the most followed Slaydie in the world and is one of the very few female Airsoft content creators out there, she has a fab message about Gender Equality in Airsoft and is a true ambassador of the sport. Check her out!
So Leah, how long have you been Airsofting?
I’ve been actively playing for a little over two years, so to most Airsofters, I’m still a n00b. However, I’m lucky to be able to play 2-3 times per week.

What got you into Airsoft and what do you love about the sport?
I actually got introduced to Airsoft by working for an Airsoft distributor - Spartan Imports.  I played in a few games so that I could be a more effective sales person. I ended up having so much fun that I began to play every weekend and started to push the company to be more active in the community.
I love Airsoft because, to me, it’s basically like playing the Cowboys & Indians games that we used to play as kids.  Except now, we have much cooler weapon systems. We have the ability to build all kinds of crazy load outs and, personally, I think Airsoft is even more fun as an adult.
Where is your home site?
DesertFox MOUT in Oro Grande, CA

What are the most memorable sites you’ve played?
I’ve made a lot of great memories in Airsoft, and I don’t think it is necessarily because of the site, but more so because of the host or event organizer and the people in your squad. The most fun I’ve had has been at High Ground Indoor Arena in Spring, TX, Road to Rostov, held at Hill 559 and hosted by Milsim West, and the Direct Action Mission at American Milsim’s Faded Giant 4. Faded Giant is held in a decommissioned nuclear facility, so it makes for some pretty crazy and challenging gameplay.
Describe to us your playing style:
I am currently working on playing more tactically and analytically. I have a tendency to be impatient and run and gun...which CAN be awesome, but it also frequently results in tunnel vision. At milsim events, I am usually the medic, which means I have to hang at the back a lot, but I’m also running a LOT in order to medic everyone. My Faded Giant 4 gameplay is going to be very medic-heavy, but in a very entertaining way. ;)

Weapons and Loadouts: What are you running?
Eesh, this is a hard one. I really like changing up my weapon and loadout. I probably have 3 guns that I run the most consistently: my custom Unicorn Slayer, built by ThunderKiss NW, my Scorpion EVO, and my E&L AKS 74-U. I switch between crazy loudouts (I have a Storm Trooper and Princess Leia loadout), but I generally stick to chest rigs with a slick underneath. It’s more suitable for my body style and allows me to feel less clunky. I have about 5 different chest rigs, from LBX, Tactical Tailor, and Tasmanian Tiger and run all of them pretty consistently.
Being a women in Airsoft: Do you feel you are treated differently because of your gender? If so, how do you deal with this?
This is a loaded question! For some reason, women in Airsoft tends to be a controversial topic. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t care about someone’s gender in reference to a hobby.  Do some women become popular simply because they are good-looking women who also play Airsoft? Absolutely. Do some men become popular simply because they play airsoft and have a certain look? You better believe it. The pendulum swings both ways.  I know sponsored players of both sexes who might be less than valuable ambassadors of Airsoft who are simply sponsored because they have a certain look and are overly confident in themselves.
On the field, we are all the same. A female can kill you just as easily as a male, her loadout and the color of her gun doesn’t make a difference.  Women on the field is becoming more commonplace, and I think that the more women that we get on the field, the fewer issues we will have with preferential and/or negative treatment.
I have definitely received my fair share of negativity just because I'm a female. It's been above and beyond the negativity doled out to my fiance, Jet DesertFox, who has about 6 times the following that I do. But, personally, I believe that actions speak louder than words. I hustle on and off the field to earn my keep, and I expect to be treated equally to my colleagues and friends.  Females in this hobby need to be strong, independent, educated in the hobby, and supportive of one another.
Social Media, tell us a little about your social media pages and where my readers can find you! I’ve had all of my social medias for a little over two years. I set them up when I was still working for Spartan Imports as a way to keep my eye on the Airsoft world - Airsoft is incredibly social media driven, and I wanted to be able to connect and understand it. Since I was working for a distributor, my accounts grew relatively quickly right out of the gate. I’ve been able to be independent for about a year and a half now, which I LOVE.  It’s allowed me to further diversify and grow my channels, and they’ve seen a huge spike since my departure from the corporate world to the self-employed world. Currently, I have the largest worldwide social media reach as a female Airsofter.
Your thoughts: Is there anything you would like to say to other players out there?
Be yourself. Don’t worry about what other people think. This was something that was really hard for me to come to terms with over the years. It’s one thing to say it, but it’s an entirely different thing to live it. The whole basis for my YouTube channel and what I do is to encourage people to have fun in Airsoft, firearms, and life in general.  Follow the rules, but don’t forget to have fun. That’s what it’s all about!

Viper V Cam Mission Pack Review!

Carrying on from my Viper V Cam Special Ops Soft Shell Jacket review, another item included in my care package from the team at Viper Tactical was their V Cam Mission Pack for me to store all of my essentials during the Milsims I have planned this winter. I used this pack during the Spartan CQC Zero One Thirty Milsim last month in Cowbridge, Wales.
So let's start with some facts, the Mission pack has a total capacity of approximately 38.5 litres, is made from durable 600D cordura and comes in V-Cam, Coyote, Green and Black, and is available from the Viper shop here for £76.00.

The Mission pack is definitely not a small piece of kit, as it has dimensions of 52 x 24 x 32cms,. It has a padded Ventex back panel, wide padded shoulder/sternum straps with QR buckles and adjustable hip harness make the pack super comfortable to wear during ops. It has internal compartments that are capable of holding ballistic plates and hydration bladders and therefore can be used on a multitude of operations. It features 2 main compartments and 4 outer pouches/compartments with some nifty little features included such as the MOLLE webbing attachments on the outer compartments and D-Rings. Another cool feature for those of us who run comms at ops is that the pack has a comms outlet. It can be quite a hassle to keep changing your comm setup over from your plate carrier to the pack so I would whole heartedly recommend using two set ups to save some time.

Now, those are the facts of the pack. My first impressions were very good - the cordura material looked strong and durable and the quality of the build/stitching was excellent. As soon as I got the pack out of the box, I was quite surprised at the dimensions - it was a lot larger than I originally expected but that turned out to be a bit of a life saver - it's large dimensions meant the main internal compartment was able to hold my spare clothes, towel, roll mat and my sleeping bag. The main compartment also has a system of straps to keep everything in place which was really helpful! As you can see from the picture to the right, although the pack is sizable, it doesn't look too big for my small frame (because lets' face it, when you rock up to an Op you don't want to look like the new kid on the first day of school with the enormous backpack!). The pack itself is very lightweight but does become quite weighty when at full capacity. Thanks to the wide padded straps and harnesses it doesn't get uncomfortable or rub when you're transporting it from location to location.

One thing I am quite fond of, is pockets (sounds silly but bare with me!) The Mission pack is full of them, and they aren't just standard pockets - the side utility pockets have MOLLE on the front which is perfect for attaching extra pouches, the front pocket has a zipped net compartment and net pockets on the main compartment wall - this is probably the most useful compartment in the pack. All the separate pockets were awesome for keeping all my personal care products and make up organised.

The slightly smaller main compartment has a neat organisational system built in with elastic cord to help keep everything organised. Although I'm not entirely sure what the actual use of this particular set up is used for (still being new to Milsim, camping and survival activities), I used this pocket to organise my cooking utensils, maps, notebooks pens and other essentials that were needed during ops which worked pretty well.

Overall I'm really happy with how the Mission pack performed and will continue to run it at any future Milsims and Ops. Check them out, let me know what you think. If any of my lovely readers have owned one for a while, I'd love to know how they hold up over time so get in touch!

Femme Fatale Airsoft Revamp: Same great content, all new artwork!

Hey everyone, as of today, we are just 50 days away from Femme Fatale Airsoft's first birthday! And before we get underway with the birthday celebrations, of which there will be plenty, I wanted to unveil the new artwork which you will see being rolled out in the next couple of weeks! This has been kindly designed by Matt Widdowson of MattTheMusketeer, you can find him on YouTube at: www.youtube.com/mattthemusketeer and on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/mattthemusketeer which are the two to follow for all his Airsoft shenanigans!

So you'll see this brand spanking new artwork across all of our social medias including YouTube (for which we have a fancy new channel intro, which you can see above! :D) We will however still be using the old design for patches as it translates much better in embroidery. As Femme Fatale Airsoft has grown over the past 10 months, I feel it is crucial we have artwork that reflects that growth. You will also notice that I will be posting more regular updates so keep your eyes peeled for those!

Viper V Cam Elite Trousers Review!

Hey everyone! After wearing my Viper V Cam Elite trousers for a fair few woodland and CQB skirmishes, I've finally managed to get round to writing a quick review on them for you all! Now unfortunately I've had some technical difficulties with my camera this week so I've illustrated this post with a product image from Viper and Military 1st and also in game photographs!
I purchased my Viper Elite Trousers from Military 1st, for £38.65 with free P&P which was quotes as 3-5 working days (http://www.military1st.co.uk/bvtrsel-viper-tactical-elite-trousers-v-cam.html). They arrived quickly, within 2 working days ready for my skirmish that weekend - very pleased with that!

When I chose the Viper trousers I was looking for a pair of adjustable trousers in Multicam with built in knee pads that were under £60 and at just under £40 these fit the bill perfectly. They are made in sizes 28" up to a 42" inch waist and are made from a mix of Polyester ripstop and cotton which is not only comfortable but feels strong and durable. The material also dries easily as proven at The All Wales Event in the soggy hills of Llandrindod Wells in the Welsh countryside!

The most important factor is of course fit. I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried them on as they fitted me really well - they have some great features that make them completely adjustable including a Velcro/zipped fly, elasticated waist adjustment, internal kneepad adjusters, a velcro knee retention strap and an adjustable velcro ankle fastener. I was easily and quickly able to adjust them to exactly what I needed - which is a much welcome change. I'm sick of having to just 'make do' or altering unisex combats to fit me properly.

My favourite feature of the Viper V Cam Elite trousers is definitely the built in neoprene lined ABS removable knee pads. I had only used Velcro knee pads once before and loved being able to kneel without getting beebs stuck in all the nooks and crannies of my knees and of course, being able to power slide but I find the issue with Velcro knee pads is they have a tendency to work themselves loose and the next thing you know, they're around your ankles! The built in knee pads on the Viper Elite trousers are easy to take out and pop back in and even have Velcro to keep them in place. The only issue I have found with the knee pads is because of my height - I'm only 5"4, even with the retention strap as lack as possible to have the knee pads low enough, they don't completely sit on my knee so when I am sliding about the fabric just below the knee pad has become a little scuffed - someone a little taller wouldn't have this issue. I am a CQB player and I like to play hard and have really put these through hell in every skirmish I have played so far, and despite a few little scuffs the cotton/polyester rip stop mix has held up well.

In regards to aesthetics the Viper V Camouflage is very crisp and saturated with colour. I wear them with a MTP UBAC and my Warrior Assault Systems Crye Multicam Plate Carrier and it doesn't look a miss, it blends nicely into the sea of multicam pattern variants. The trousers also have a plethora of pockets for storage, ranging from the two front hand pockets that house the internal knee pad adjusters, two back pockets, two expandable thigh pockets, two expandable cargo pockets and lastly the two ankle utility pockets making them a practical and useful piece of kit to wear on the field.
Overall, I'm really happy with my Viper V Cam Elite trousers. They are made in a vast array of waist sizes and are completely adjustable to fit a variety of different body shapes and sizes - something very important for women in our sport. At just under £40 they are excellent value for money, as a mid price range product they will suitable for most load out budgets without compromising on quality of the fabric or build. The knee pads are my personal favourite feature, and along with the great storage capabilities it makes them a useful piece of kit.

#EFFYOURSTEREOTYPES: Challenging the perceptions of Female Airsofters.

Hey everyone, this week it's time for a blog post with a difference! 3 weeks ago I posted a picture to Instagram as a light hearted jibe at the many stereotypes women in the Airsoft industry encounter each day and hashtagged it with #effyourstereotypes and it totally blew up! My Women of Airsoft battle sisters rallied round and made their own #effyourstereotypes posts! Then something absolutely unexpected and amazing happened - when I shared our posts on my Femme Fatale Airsoft Facebook page it was seen by almost 22,000 people from countries around the globe! So I decided this little movement deserved it's own blog post.
Every day more women are joining the ranks of female Airsofters and challenging the stereotypes. As many of you who read my blog and keep up to date with FFA on social media will know that I am a massive advocate for Gender Equality. The very purpose of FFA from the beginning has always been to encourage and support female players, but I have been called a Sexist and my personal favourite a 'Feminazi' because of my passion for Gender Equality - how very dare I want to end discrimination and promote equality for both sexes in sport?! :P This post compliments one of the very first blog posts of 2015 ' Being a Female Airsofter in a Male Dominated Sport' which you can read, look in the 'Popular Posts' in the column to the left and it will be there.
So let's get down to it, the subject is challenging the perceptions of female Airsofters and within this topic are two main points that I want to cover - the stereotype of women being weak, helpless, delicate creatures and the stereotype that female Airsofters are 'manly' and unfeminine. There's not much that rattles my cage but this issue is definitely one of them, whilst society has come leaps and bounds in progress for Gender Equality, it seems some individuals are still living with and practicing outdated attitudes towards women in sport.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been told I couldn't do certain things because of my gender (not that I let that stop me) - such as contact sports or football in Secondary School. I assume this is because of the assumption on their part that girls are the weaker sex, but where does that assumption come from? Throughout history, in many cultures (although not all) women's roles have been restricted to raising children and taking care of the home whilst the men went out to hunt/work/fight etc (which also brings about a stereotype for men that puts immense pressure on them).

These 'preprogrammed' roles for women translate into attitudes that get passed through generations and are then ingrained into our society. This is explained perfectly in the Always #LikeAGirl - Unstoppable advert, which you can watch to the right! The Always #LikeAGirl campaign (http://always.com/en-us/about-us/our-epic-battle-like-a-girl) was started because of the normalisation of the insult 'like a girl'.

I do everything like a girl - fight like a girl, shoot like a girl, drive like a girl, because I am a girl. And there's nothing wrong with that. I've said it before, but I will say it again - some of the female Airsofters I've met and had the pleasure to play alongside, play harder than the guys. Women are the biggest growing demographic in shooting sports and we're not just girlfriends being dragged along to games in our boyfriends kits. We're players in our own right. Sliding into cover, taking objectives, rocking out in jeeps, getting the kills and just generally kicking ass! We give as good as we get. Since the beginning of FFA I have working tirelessly to smash these stereotypes and to push myself to be a better player. Despite all the criticism, sexist comments and just general rubbish that is thrown at female Airsofters online and on the field, it has been worth it. Becoming the first female admin to the biggest UK group of Airsofters on Facebook and the first female contributor to a UK Airsoft publication means the industry is moving forward with us, and that these stereotypes are dying out. I am both so proud and humble to be apart of this.

The other stereotype that I wanted to address was that you can't be feminine and play airsoft. Firstly there is nothing wrong with not being girly but I am, I like to wear dresses, get my nails done and shoot shit. Airsoft is accessible to anyone.

These women that I am featuring in this blog post are a mixture of my Women of Airsoft sisters, followers and friends who are all doing their bit to push the industry forward for women, whether it's having a fab attitude on the field, leading teams or showing how badass female players are through their videos etc.
