SITE | SOUTHCOAST CQB!

Hey everyone!

Welcome back to the blog! Today I have another site review for you, this time on Southcoast CQB in Lee-on-Solent!

On the 23rd of June 2019, I was invited to Southcoast CQB to play at one of their open days. The site is located in Lee-on-Solent on the South coast of England, and as I live in Derby it took me just under 3 hours to get to the site (I left my house at 5.15am!). As the site is on a main-ish road, it is easy to find and signposted. On arrival, there was a friendly Marshall to greet incoming cars. The car park is pretty small so arrive early if you want a decent space.

Southcoast CQB is an urban/CQB site that has a lot of buildings to fight in, around and through, that mixes quite well with the challenging outdoor spaces. Some of the buildings are two stories which are accessible to players. In its early days, the site was used by the Royal Marines Arms Corps between 1922-1959, the South East District Small Arms Corp as a minor training facility in 1961 and a weekend training centre up to the mid-1970s for army cadets. Now it hosts airsofters every Thursday evening and two Sundays a month.

The facilities on site are good - the safe zone is spacious as it is a two-story building - we had a double room upstairs which was big enough for seven of us and our kit. You have to go to another room to fill in an insurance waiver and you pay in the main foyer - it is worth noting that payments are cash or PayPal, I think it would be a great idea for the site to invest in a PayPal card reader so players can pay on card as well! The sign in desk is also the shop that sells snacks/beverages and all the game day essentials such as BBs, pyro and gas. The site also has portaloos that are unisex - this is one of the only aspects that let the site down. Although they were well stocked with loo roll and anti bac, I would describe them as clean-ish. On Sundays there is a hot food wagon that is on site for lunch - I paid £6 for a cheeseburger, fries and a can of coke which was reasonable. The safety brief was comprehensive and the staff were welcoming.

We played a variety of games throughout the day, including team deathmatches and lots of objective based games. One of my personal favourites was the game where the teams had to collect the pegs from a basket in the centre of the site and take them back to their respawn - this game made for some REALLY intense gameplay and I had a great time slotting players from the showers with Names Nicco. The gameplay was quite evenly spread out around the site as the games utilised all areas. The site also has some cool props such as the bomb which also made for a great game.

Throughout the course of the day, I did notice some questionable hit taking - which I let the staff know about at the time and will be sending them the footage, and the staff got on the case pretty quickly. Unfortunately, none-hit taking is apart of airsoft, and reflects more on the player rather than the site and its staff.

Overall, I had a really good day at Southcoast CQB - the games were fun, engaging and run well by the staff - although the game where teams need to get a certain amount of players in the range needs a few tweaks. The playing area itself is a great mix of indoor and outdoor spaces that play really well, the variety it offers is great! The facilities available were good, but the loos could use some work. Food was great, staff were friendly and most importantly we had a great day of shooting. Looking forward to the next visit!

FEMME FATALE AIRSOFT'S TOP 5 UK AIRSOFT SITES 2016!

Hey everyone! It's that time of year again, with 2016 coming to a very much welcome end (I think we'll all agree 2016 has been an absolute roller coaster!) it's time to reflect on the sites I've played this year and decide on my personal favourites! (I've highlighted personal because this is just my list of favourites from sites I've played, it's not an exhaustive list!) We have some old faithful favourites and some new entries this year! From urban venues to CQB here is my top 5 sites 2016!

Number 5 - The Billet, Ambush Adventures

At number 5 we have The Billet, which is ran by Ambush Adventures and is located in Aldershot, Hampshire. An old favourite of mine, The Billet is an old military barracks which is made up of 2 spider buildings that are absolutely full to the brim with rooms and corridors to fight through with a large outdoor space as well that offers a variety of game play. The firefights are always super intense and I love that this site runs a lot of objective games with props and tech to compliment them! You can check out my full review of the site here

Number 4 - UCAP Sandpit, UCAP Airsoft

A new entry for this year at number 4 is the Sandpit in Dartford, Kent that was the venue for Stirling Airsoft's Operation Broadsword! Unfortunately the Sandpit closed down this year due to redevelopment but I'm sure those who have played the site can attest to how awesome it was! The Sandpit was a vast site that encompassed a quarry, a lake where boats were a regular appearance at game days, buildings for that close CQB  rush and plenty of vegetation and green stuff for those woodland players out there!

Number 3 - The Gaol, The Gaol Events

Another new entry for 2016! The Gaol in Oakham, Rutland! The Gaol is an old low security prison that comprises of 4 former wings of the prison, and a large outdoor space full of cars, buildings and gated areas to fight through. From the pitch black maze to the kill house made up of an old cell block this site is offers intense CQB. The games played vary from death matches, to objective based games featuring props such as MILAN missile launcher. Check out my full site review here

Number 2 - Wentworth CQB, Skirmish Airsoft

Another new entry! Skirmish Airsoft's Wentworth CQB in Rotherham! The first time I rocked up to this site I was a little confused as to why they'd let us play Airsoft in the Wentworth Estate, but on the Wentworth Estate there is a cluster of 2 storey buildings that were previously student accommodation meaning players get to fight through bedrooms, kitchens, corridors and social rooms in team death matches and objective games. What I love about this site is that it is super, super close room clearance CQB. Check out my full site review here

Number 1 - Strike Force CQB, Strike Force

At Number 1 we have my home site Strike Force CQB in Gloucester. Strike Force is a Victorian warehouse in the heart of Gloucester city centre that contains 2 definitive zones full of kill house structures, a maze, open spaces and of course tonnes of tight corners and spaces to work your way through. With new games constantly being thrown into the mix and the site being rebuilt every month or so it's impossible to get bored and keeps the game play fresh which is why I have chosen this as my top site for 2016! WELCOME TO BADLANDS! STRIKE FORCE BADLANDS REVIEW!

Hey everyone, last month I finally managed to get a game in at Strike Force's new site 'Badlands' and here are my thoughts on the site!

So Strike Force Badlands is situated in Abingdon, Oxfordshire at the former RAF Abingdon site now known as the Dalton Barracks. The site is 95 miles from my home in Derbyshire and takes around an hour and a half via the M42 and M40. It is a huge woodland site of varied terrain with 280 acres of total playable area. When the site isn't being used for BB wars it is used for off road driver and hostile environment training amongst other training exercises. The site is easy to find especially using a Sat Nav or Google maps as the postcode takes you directly outside the site and there is a friendly marshal outside on game days to welcome you and direct you to the gravel car park area. The gravel car park is fairly large with room for their average player count of 90.

For a woodland site, it has excellent facilities - a lit, heated safe zone building with multiple rooms filled with tables, chairs, sofas, working toilets for both male and female players, an onsite shop and free tea and coffee throughout the day. Walk on is £30 and if you require a rental, the package is £45 which is in line with the average game day fee up and down the country. The price doesn't include lunch so it is advisable to bring a packed lunch but there are a few shops nearby including a McDonald's. Bookings can be made either by calling Swindon Airsoft or via their website.

P.S I'm also not sure where my stock was going in that photo either :P

Now the site staff are one of my favourite aspects of the Strike Force family of sites, the staff are really efficient when receiving players in the reception area, the safety brief is always comprehensive, it doesn't drag on for ages and is delivered by engaging marshals. The marshals and site owners run a tight ship and aren't afraid to have a laugh. The other players I played with on my visit were an honest and friendly bunch, I didn't encounter any issues that day and I even got to meet and play alongside some of my awesome followers!

The team currently utilise 140 acres of the total playable area which is more than enough. My favourite part of the site is the 'bunker' which is a structure of man made stone hills that create a more enclosed area to play in and gives me that CQB fix. The terrain varies from thick brambled woods, roads, the bunker hills, a body of water, long grass and wide open spaces so the gameplay is never the same. I spent most of my day crawling through woods and long grass to get some super sneaky kills. Although I'm a CQB player at heart, I do love a good run and gun in the great outdoors and this site is so big and varied that I didn't get bored. I had loads of fun crawling through brambles, into trenches, climbing hills etc. We played a varied set of games that appealed to everyone from team death matches to objective games like capture the flag that really get me into the game (CTF ended in a very intense firefight between myself and one of the sites owners Paul Bibby over a heavily overgrown embankment! All good fun!

The site is huge and running is a must so I would advise against wearing LOADS of gear purely
because you need to be incredibly mobile to move at speed and lightweight/slick enough to get through the wooded areas of the site. I opted for my Warrior 901 chest rig in OD for this skirmish with my M81 BDU and realised two things - chest rigs are awesome and that I need to slim mine down a tad as it makes me look out of proportion haha. The weather on the day I attended was swelteringly hot! So I ended up going from playing in a UBAC and face mask to a t shirt and no face pro (but no pics so it didn't happen right? - tell that to the shot I took to the nose! Haha)

Overall, even though I'm not a huge fan of woodland sites, I was exceptionally impressed with Badlands. The safe zone is easily the best out of all the woodland sites I have been to and the site itself is varied enough to not become a drag (pure green, flat ground gets hella boring after a while) and the games have something to offer everyone. Well done team SF!
